Eric Hartter was a tattoo artist who fathered a child with Eminem‘s ex-wife, Kimberly Anne Scott. Eric was a drug dealer, and he never married Kim. He left her as she battled through drug and alcohol use. Eminem adopted the child and raised her along with his other kids.

The biological father of Whitney Scott Mathers, Eric Hartter, died on August 22, 2019. He was found dead by his mother in an abandoned house in Michigan. As per sources, Eric died from a suspected overdose. He was 40 years old at the time of his death.

Eminem and Kimberly Anne Scott were high-school sweethearts. Kim and her late twin sister moved in with Eminem when she was 13. The couple began and off the relationship. Their only daughter, Hailie Jade, was born in 1995.

Further, Eminem married Kim in 1999 but filed for divorce in 2001, accusing her of infidelity. After the divorce, Kim began dating Michigan native Eric and gave birth to Whitney in April 2002.

Although Eminem never met Eric, the rapper adopted his daughter. At the time, Kim found solace in drugs, and she was barely there for her child. She battled through substance abuse and went to the rehabilitation center as well.

On the other hand, Eric himself was a drug peddler. On July 3, 2019, one month before his death, Eric was sentenced to two months in prison and two years probation. He was found guilty of possessing drugs while in prison. He also had a felony warrant out of Macomb County.

In August 2019, the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Hartter’s death. The outlets reported that he died of a suspected drug overdose.

A source close to the family stated that Eric struggled for years with drug addiction. Additionally, he had also been struggling with heroin abuse.
